The purpose of the Belford V. Lawson Oratorical Contest is to identify problems or special topics of interest within society and determine how the problem or topic relates to the goals and objectives of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated.
The Oratorical Contest provides College brothers the opportunity to enhance and display their communication skills through oration. The contest fosters the development of leadership qualities as well as the ability to think intelligently and speak clearly. It also prepares our collegiate members for the acceptance of the duties and responsibilities of entering the real world. Solid public speaking and written communication skills will be an integral part of an individual's chosen career field.
Eligibility
Each contestant must be an active undergraduate member of the Fraternity and financial at the Chapter, District, Regional and National levels. Each contestant must be registered at the respective conference.
